Miles from Home

It took around two years for Paul Pesce's debut, Miles From Home to finally receive a release date from Island's Blue imprint. Musically the album is conceptually broad, with "Theme," "Live @ 2.37" and the hip-hop leanings of "End of Story" working independently of each other, with a common acoustic thread running throughout. Sadly however the drum and bass material isn't very good, a handicap that has since struck many artist albums from the genre. While the Photek sound clash "P vs. P" works on a dancefloor level it fails to completely make the transition to compact disc. "Vegas" and "Switch" have weathered poorly since their first emergence on acetate in 1998 and bland programming and weak strings take the form of dead weight in the Kym Mazelle vocalled "Truly." Though fans of the drumfunk sub-genre should take a look, this album makes a disjointed and ultimately disappointing home listen. -- Kingsley Marshall
