Mark Ramos-Nishita, otherwise known as Money Mark, has no shortage of eclectic talents and has managed to complete his third full-length album Change Is Coming--a twelve-track collection of instrumentals in the vein of his debut as well as recently collaborating with the likes of Femi Kuti and Handsome Boy Modeling School. The beauty of Mark's music is in the way it straddles knowing cool and self-deprecating cheesiness. While Change Is Coming runs the gamut of soul-jazz, squelchy 80s funk, Afro beat and a skewed kind of easy listening, the music always feels assured and entirely natural, and despite the kudos Mark has rightly received the mood is joyously fun the whole time rather than determinedly cool. "Information Contraband" is turbo-fuelled jazz-funk, "Another Day to Love You" floats by in a summery Spanish shuffle and the Los Lobos-assisted "Pepe Y Irene" is languorous, keyboard-led loveliness. Once again the fourth Beastie Boy, as he's often called, has produced his own distinctly unique take on laid-back soul-jazz and beats, which, while not a marked departure from his other work, is a pleasure all the same. The title Change Is Coming may be ironic, but that's half his charm. -Suzannah Brown
