The second collection of the best party music from the Good Times sound system duo Joey and Norman is another fantastic selection of funk, dance, soul, hip-hop and reggae. From the opening bassline of the O'Jays smooth funk ("For The Love of Money") or the intro to Young MC's hip-hop classic "Know How", many of the tracks on Good Times 2 are so recognisable they are guaranteed to get people nodding along before they even know it. But some of the best tracks are the ones you don't expect to hear. There's a northern soul classic by the Flirtations ("Nothing But A Heartache") and a storming Masters at Work remix of the house classic "Its Alright I Feel It" as well as a Larry Levan remix of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" thrown in for good measure. As ever, Joey and Norman seem set on embodying the word "eclectic". The first CD focuses on funk, disco and reggae while the second has a much more upbeat feel with the breakbeat sounds of Wookie's "Scrappy" rubbing shoulders with Nitin Sawhney's chilled-out drum and bass and some laidback hip-hop beats courtesy of the UMC's to let you catch your breath. Never too strenuous, never too chilled out, the mix on Good Times 2 shows exactly what a successful sound system needs--plenty of massive tunes and chilled-out beats to keep the party/carnival going through the afternoon and the evening and into early hours. All you need to do now is find somewhere to plug in those massive bins. --Caroline Butler
