Ear-Resistible

Sole remaining original Temptation Otis Williams supplies the most memorable moments on the group's 57th album, Ear-Resistible. Unfortunately, the baritone stays in the background except for a bit of preaching on "One Love One World" and a call to party on, you guessed it, "Party." Ear-Resistible may appeal to hardcore Tempts fans; 1998's Phoenix Rising went platinum. But little or none of the group's greatness is on display on this disc's long series of uninspired midtempo ballads. It may be unfair to measure the new "Elevator Eyes" and "Kiss Me Like You Miss Me" to "I Can't Get Next to You" and "My Girl," but the quintet begs such comparisons by continuing under the legendary act's name. --Bob Roget
