A more unlikely source for an Ibizan chill-out record than Chris Rea would be hard to imagine, but his deliciously sun-kissed single "Summer Long"--remixed by Jose Padilla and DJ Pippi--has become that in 2000, and not, improbably, for the first time. "All Summer Long", even without its remix, heralds a return to form for Rea, seemed to have been deflected by his health problems, fixation with fast cars and movie making. He may have his worries, but a more relaxed, at peace record than King Of The Beach would be hard to find. The subtle, bluesy guitar mixed back against rustling, breezy percussion and those whisky-flavoured Middlesbrough tones make numbers like "Guitar Street", "The Bones of Angels" and "Mississippi" a mellow delight. These days he evokes a large cold one on the beach rather than a wet evening in rush hour traffic and that can't be bad. --Mike Pattenden
