This is the second disc of the best complete series of Prokofiev's piano concertos I have heard. It begins with the brilliant, often humorous Third Concerto, Prokofiev's most popular. Kun Woo Paik gives us all the dazzle we want to hear in the music, but doesn't neglect--as many others do--the lyrical side of Prokofiev. Then comes the rather odd, neo-classical Fourth Concerto, written for left hand only to accommodate a pianist wounded in World War I. The disc concludes with the devastating First Concerto, a piece Prokofiev wrote to show off his own piano technique. Paik catches the mood of each piece, and so does the excellent orchestra under Antoni Wit. One of the best bargains in the large Naxos catalog. --Leslie Gerber
