Siouxsie & the Banshees are quite possibly the only first-generation "punk" band to last long enough to have hit collections that chronicle three decades. Though initially inspired by the Sex Pistols, the Banshees were always more about arty romanticism than street aggression. This second collection of hits begins in 1982, after their first flash of fame and creativity had concluded. These tunes then represent the Banshees' attempt at adapting to the difficult musical landscape of the 1980s. While they were capable of powerfully catchy tunes of their own ("Cities in Dust" off Tinderbox being a prime example), several covers featured here make the case for them as adept interpreters. Iggy Pop's "The Passenger," the Beatles' "Dear Prudence," and Bob Dylan and Rick Danko's "This Wheel's on Fire" are all given the gothic treatment. --Rob O'Connor
