Though not listed in the Yellow Pages, Karl Wallinger is the 24-hour maintenance-man to contact if your Beatles Blue album is on the blink and you need a quick, 1960s-quality, adult-pop fix. Dumbing Up, World Party's fifth album and the first since Robbie Williams stormed the charts with Wallinger's "She's The One", re-affirms that Lennon-esque urge for memory-latching melody and hope for global accord, best indicated by the "Dear Prudence" musicality and post-millennium apprehension of "Another 1000 Years". Dylan fans, meanwhile, will be tickled pink by the tragi-humorous "Tombstone Blues"-style ramble of "Who Are You", whilst the guitars of "What Does It Mean Now" will have Neil Young saying "Hey, no trespassing." Even Stones fans needn't feel excluded, for "Always On My Mind", a show-stopping eight-minute plea for eco-awareness, peace and spirituality in this rotten world, showcases Wallinger's very best Mick Jagger vocal affectation. --Kevin Maidment
