A lot of fans were disappointed with the album released with the movie Shrek, but they won't be with this one. This is the full fall-about funny score that's punctuated with the few original songs. "Welcome To Duloc" is as funny a pastiche of all things Disney as was the city's Main Street. "Singing Princess" certainly starts as the perfect fairy tale solo, but of course ends in high-pitched tragedy! And no, that's not Cameron Diaz singing. Finally, there's the brief but memorable "Merry Men" singalong. The 40 minutes of score alongside these highlights is as eclectic a mix as you'd expect from the composing double-act of Antz and Chicken Run. There's swashbuckling adventure ("Dragon!/Fiona Awakes"), sweet romantic interludes ("Starry Night") and lots of sneaky allusion to other fairy tale classics (such as "Three Blind Mice" in "Uninvited Guests"). Some listeners may want their pop songs too, in which case both albums are needed. Otherwise, this will always be the one to raise a smile. --Paul Tonks
