Like their fellow Canadians Sloan or England's High Llamas, the five members of Heavy Blinkers create close-harmony, baroque vocal pop in the Smiley Smile/ Sunflower mould. There are no rock theatrics or soft metal guitar solos to lessen the intensity of this sugary confection, however. Songs like "From The Barnyard" and the candy-floss sticky "Pennycandy On The Brain" are undiluted sweetness--like The Mamas And The Papas given licence to run riot through the back catalogue of Burt Bacharach. Bounce go the Heavy Blinkers as Jason, Ruth and Andrew launch into the intricately textured "Instruments of Love" and "Beacon in the Sun".
