 Paperback: 246 pages  Language: English This textbook is a collection of phrasal verbs. A phrasal verb is a combination of a verb and a preposition or adverb in which the second word (the preposition or adverb) often changes the meaning of the first word (the verb). There are many cases in which the basic meaning of the verb doesn't change, but adding the preposition or adverb makes it sound more natural. These idiomatic expressions are so commonly used that a deep understanding of the English language and the ability to speak it naturally would be impossible without them. I have included as comprehensive a list of them as I possibly could, in terms of phrasal verbs which are commonly heard and used today. I decided not to include some phrasal verbs of which I felt the meanings were so outdated or so limited in their range of use, that most people would not understand them if they were used in conversation. In addition, there are probably other phrasal verbs used in other English speaking countries such as Australia but, because I'm personally not acquainted with them, I have not included them either. I have, however, included some commonly known British expressions and indicated them as such in parentheses. Almost all of the phrasal verbs included in this book are used commonly throughout the English speaking world, but I realize that, being a Canadian by birth, I wrote this book from a North American perspective. I have also indicated in which situations each of these expressions can be used. As I mentioned before, I have tried to create a list that includes all phrasal verbs used in natural conversation. Because of this, I have decided to include many expressions which are rude or extremely sexual in nature. It is not my intention to shock people or cause offense by doing this; I simply feel it's important for people to understand such expressions in order to avoid making embarrassing mistakes when speaking or writing English.
