Evie MacBeth thinks she's an ordinary girl of 11. Well, as ordinary as any girl of 11 could possibly be…
However, during that year’s Easter School Holidays, she is sent to stay with her Uncle Stewart at his home near Scotland’s famous Lynch Wood Country Park - a huge wooded estate with a wild natural beauty, interrupted only by the remains of an old castle and a long-abandoned zoo.
It is during her regular visits to the Park that Evie begins to realise the area’s rich history is not exactly consigned to the past. You see, whilst her Uncle only sees the rusty cages and worn-out bricks in between the swaying trees, young Evie encounters the spirits of all kinds of animals there, as well magical creatures and even a ghost!
Is it all just in her imagination? Uncle Stewart certainly seems to think so. But for Evie, the Park is very much alive; a world lost in time and invisible to those who’ve forgotten how to see. But that’s ok, because only you, brave young reader, were invited along anyway…
