Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles whisks the super sleuth off to Baskerville Hall, the scene of a 200-year-old family curse and a supernatural, ghostly hellhound believed to have murdered the estate’s owner by ripping out his throat. This novel in particular is a beloved favorite, both now and at the time of its publishing in 1902 – a true stroke of luck for readers, since Doyle had killed off his detective eight years previously in “The Final Problem.” However, upon perceiving the popularity of Baskervilles, Doyle eventually revived Holmes, attributing his death to a staged faking.
