About The Author
British novelist Emily Eden (1797–1869) lived in India and drew on that experience to write Up The Country (1867). Her bestsellers include: The Semi-Detached House (1859) and The Semi-Attached Couple (1860). She has been compared to Jane Austen for her dry wit, and Austen was reportedly Emily's favorite author.
