Institutes of the Christian Religion is considered John Calvin's magnum opus and a groundbreaking systematization of Protestant theology. The first edition was written in 1536 as a brief summary of Christian teaching, but because of the demand by 1559 – Institutes grew into the four-volume set that we know today.
