The de Havilland Mosquito was the fastest RAF aircraft when it entered service in September 1941 with a speed 20 mph faster than the Spitfire. Made from wood, a non-strategic material using non-strategic labour, the Mosquito was the original multi-role combat aircraft which excelled as an unarmed high speed bomber, night fighter and precision ground attack aircraft, as well as on other duties.
