Emmy Award winner Tom Selleck (Magnum, P.I.; Three Men and a Baby) stars as a major league ballplayer who is reluctantly traded to the Chinichi Dragons in Nagoya, Japan, in this fish-out-of-water sports comedy. Replaced by a rookie, the resentful Jack Elliot (Selleck) feels superior to the other Dragons, but he has a lot to learn about Japanese baseball, which is more about teamwork than about being an arrogant hotshot. Japanese superstar Ken Takakura (Black Rain) is their hard-headed manager, Uchiyama, whom Jack treats with direspect, while the beautiful Hiroko (Aya Takanashi) helps him learn to live in-and love-his new home. Equal parts Gung Ho and Major League, this cross-cultural comedy was directed by Fred Schepisi (Roxanne), with music by famed composer Jerry Goldsmith, an ACADEMY AWARD winner for The Omen.
