The narrator presents himself to the old woman as a prospective lodger and is prepared to court her niece Miss Tita, a plain spinster, in hopes of getting a look at some of Aspern's letters kept by Juliana. But at what price? The novel was Inspired by an incident involving Claire Clairmont, former mistress of Lord Byron. The book is part psychological, with intriguing relationships, scenes, mood, and character.

A social comedy about Christopher Newman, an American businessman on his first tour of Europe. Along the way, he finds a widow from an aristocratic French family.

The Turn of the Screw
Douglas reads a manuscript from a former governess who is now dead. It is the story of how the young governess was hired by a man who lives mainly in London and is not interested in raising his niece and nephew himself after their parents’ death.

About The Author .
Henry James (1843 –1916) was an Anglo-American writer who alternated between the U.S. and Europe, spending much of his career in Britain where he became an English subject. He is well regarded for his novels discussing Americans and their brush with Europeans. His books explore consciousness and perception. His books, particularly later works, have been compared to impressionist painting. He is one of the key figures of 19th-century literary realism.
He was born the son of Henry James, Sr. the brother of philosopher and psychologist William James and diarist Alice James. The author's method of writing from a character's point of view allowed him to explore issues related to consciousness and perception. His use of point of view, interior monologue and unreliable narrators brought a new depth to narrative fiction.
In addition to fiction, he published articles and books of travel, biography, autobiography, and criticism, and wrote plays. James alternated between America and Europe for the first twenty years of his life; eventually he settled in England, becoming a British subject in 1915, one year before his death. James was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1911, 1912, and 1916
