For the fourth and final season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, London escort Belle (Dr. Who's Billie Piper, who could pass for Kylie Minogue's cousin) picks right up where she left off--until she runs into Stephanie (Cherie Lunghi). Now behind bars, the Discreet Elite madam convinces Belle to take over her business and to look after her daughter, Poppy (Lily James), who assumes they work as corporate headhunters (a rude awakening awaits). Belle also considers an offer to turn her memoir into a movie, which leads to a disastrous trip to New York. While she's away, dominatrix Charlotte (Gemma Chan) appoints herself boss, and Poppy goes a little nuts. New distractions aside, Belle continues to see bar manager Ben (Iddo Goldberg), her somewhat drippy, if devoted boyfriend. During these eight episodes, Belle's clients include a hard-to-please attorney (Adam Astill), a big baby (James Wilby), a wrestling fanatic (Dan Li), a tragic vampire (Alex Lowe), and a persistent detective (Paul Nicholls) who insists he's her perfect match. By the end, Belle has to decide whether she wants to give up her job and stay with Ben, go off with the copper, or give single life a try. Though made for Britain's ITV2, Secret Diary of a Call Girl follows in the footsteps of sexually liberated Showtime staples like Queer as Folk and The L Word, though Belle's first-person narration and over-the-top outfits also bring HBO's Sex and the City to mind--even if Carrie Bradshaw never wore quite so much make-up. Sadly, the extras are on the skimpy side: a photo gallery, text-based biographies of the principal players, and an unlisted blooper reel, which plays directly after the finale. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
