The best part about watching a filmed Korn show, in all of its hideously over-produced glory, is being given the chance to see just how much Korn fans worship this n-metal band. Kids with Korn tattoos and multiple piercings hurl themselves not only into mosh pits but also towards the camera lens.
Live On the Other Side documents Korn's performance at the Hammerstein Ballroom, where they perform Korn hits as well as hopped-up covers of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall," "Goodbye Cruel World," and a Metallica tune. Wide-shots of the concert hall give the film arena-rock presence, and pans of the audience moshing in hurricane-like swirls around the dance floor recreate the ambience that attendees must have experienced. Like many good music films,
Live On the Other Side offers more than concert footage, which eventually drags on. In the mini-documentary, "See You On The Other Side," a select few international Korn contest winners get to ride from London to Newark with Korn in Korn Airforce One, their private jet. In "See Who's On the Other Side," interviews with band members and the tour's production crew, from the sound guy to the lighting engineer, show the complexities of large-scale touring.
Live On the Other Side can be viewed in Dolby or in Surround Sound, and the disc also offers subtitles in French and Spanish.
