He received his B.A. from Taisho University in Tokyo, and his M.A. from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, U.S.A. He served as a Buddhist minister at the Jodo Shu Betsuin in Los Angeles from 1959 to 1967. He is now a professor emeritus at Tokaigakuen Women's College and the head priest of the Chofuku-ji temple in the city of Tsushima, Aichi Prefecture.
