Although this book is fictitious, there are many things that a foreigner knowledgeable about Japan can learn. The author makes learning the history during this era interesting and exciting, and takes one back to a time when the few foreigners in Japan were truly treated as "barbarians". Anyone who has read Shogun by this author will love this novel! How the author manages to write such a long novel and still keep the reader on the edge of his seat, I don't know!!
