I really like the story about these two lovers, the strength to live together and grow but was tragically separated by an arrogant father of the heroine, reunited for a reason to get separated but go inseparable by their love for each other and affection which was not shared for ten years of separation. I like the end of it when Matthew Farrell went all the way for Meredith Bancroft to save her and her empire!

I definitely recommend anyone who bought this to eventually get “Perfect” featuring Zachary Benedict and Julie Mathison, and also “Every Breath You Take” featuring Mitchell Wyatt and Kate Donovan. Matthew and Meredith Farrell will also be featured in these two books to keep!

Judith McNaughtの著作の中で、一番好きな作品です。
私の洋書ベストファイブの中の一冊でもあります。
ロマンスのみではなく、ビジネスや家族の確執など、
いろいろな世界が描かれているのが好きな理由です。
障害の連続にやきもきさせられますが、一気に読み進んでしまいます。

"Paradise" has to be one of the most amazing books that I have ever read!! I absolutely ADORED Matt and Meredith. Matt was so sexy and soooo in love with her!!! And Meredith has to be one of my all time favorite heroines...sometimes she was so naive, I couldnt help but belly laugh. I love the way that Judith McNaught spends the time to let you REALLY get to know the characters...I cant say enough about this book!! I would also highly recommend reading Tino Georgiou's bestselling novel--The Fates--if you haven't yet!!

私の初・マクノートがこの"Paradise"でしたが、読み始めたら最後、夜も眠れず、電車の中でも手放せず、結局一週間で読みきってしまいました。
７００ページ以上あるのでかなりボリュームありますが、英語は平易なので多少の単語をとばしても読めます。
ハラハラドキドキ、まるで映画を見ているようです。
カテゴリーとしてはラブロマンスなのですが、ビジネスシーンも描かれているし、人間関係の絡みあいもあります。
とにかく退屈はしないこと請け合いです！私はこの後、スピンオフの"Perfect"を読もうと思っています！

McNaughtはNYTimes Best Sellingに何度ものる作家ですが何故か日本で翻訳本が出ている
作品が少ない作家。(何故?)
特徴はユーモアとWitに飛んだ会話、そしてこれでもかというほど二転三転するストーリーに
読み手が追い立てられなかなか途中で本を置くことが難しい事。
それも本当にアップダウン激しく、時には許せないほどの不幸が押し寄せたりするのですが
その中でも読み手を微笑ませ、思い切り笑わせて、そしてほろりとさせてくれます。

有名百貨店の跡取り娘Meredithと恋に落ちた工員Matt。
Meredithの父親の画策した悲劇的な別れ後、お互いに誤解と恨みを抱いたまま11年後に再会、
Mattはビジネスで大成功/時代の寵児になっていた...と、書いてしまうとなんだかハーレクインのようですが
「コンテンポラリー・ロマンスの至高の名作」とあるだけあって、展開・心理描写・Ｗｉｔの聞いた会話等読み応えがあります。

MattとMeredithは他McNaught作品にも非常に重要な役割ででてきます。
読後、Perfectを読むのをお勧めします。Night Whispersもスピンオフですが、
Perfectほど結びつきは強くないかも。作品の雰囲気も少し違います。
めったに邦訳に不満は持たないのですが本作品の邦訳は不満。
本当は名作なだけに是非原書を読んでほしいデス。
