An all-star cast was involved in this WWII plot to kidnap Churchill. Schifrin was no stranger to the genre, having already worked on Kelly's Heroes and The Rise and Fall Of The Third Reich. Something about the psychological intuitiveness of this score has meant a more lasting popularity however. There's a very strong motif principally for brass. This creates a very unnerving effect, as does a secondary theme appearing in the form of a human whistle and minimal wind instrument backing. In "Eagle Goes To Church", the combination has more than a little of the feel of Ennio Morricone's spaghetti western style. Beyond the intelligence of the music, the main recommendation is that it presents something extremely different from the regular Jazz noir Schifrin voice. --Paul Tonks
