I first read Small Pig in 2nd grade... 25 years later, it's still my all-time favorite children's book. I've told friends about it and even though I haven't seen the book in years, I can still vividly remember the expression on the pig's face when he got stuck in the cement. As a learning disabled child (undiagnosed at the time, but I knew that reading was a chore nonetheless), I found the book not only easy to read, but I was in love with the expressive illustrations of the pig. An absolutely adorable character. It's a parable in many ways to the way a child feels when they don't get their way. The farmer and his wife loved this pig very much and it's obvious in the telling of the story. It's short enough to read as a bed-time story to your kids and even the scary parts are brief and even humorous. In addition, for the older readers, I highly recc. Giorgio Kostantinos' 'The Quest' If more stars were available, I would add them.

農家のペットのこぶたは、自分の大事な泥を、かたずけられてしまって、とてもおこっています。そして、とうとう、家出までしてしまいました。よっぽど、泥が、大事なんでしょう。ペットも、家出することがあるので、皆さん、ご注意を！

２歳半の男の子用に買いました。
ママにも読める簡単な英語です。イラストの小さい子ブタのしぐさがとてもかわいらしく、子どもはこぶたの動きを真似ながら、いつもページをめくっています。
イラストの色は派手ではありませんが、落ち着いた色合いでとても素敵です。他のarnold lobelの本も何冊か一緒に購入しましたが、子どもはこのsmall pigだけをよんで、と毎晩せがみます。お勧めです。

Ｆｒｏｇ＆Ｔｏａｄシリーズ等とまとめて購入したので、Ｓｍａｌｌ　Ｐｉｇにはあまり期待していなかったのですが（表紙のイラストがピンとこなくて）。でもｓｏｆｔ　ｍｕｄを探し求め家から逃げ出す場面がかわいくて、すぐファンになりました。ＳＭＡＬＬ　ＰＩＧでもシリーズで読みたいくらいです。Ａｒｎｏｌｄ　Ｌｏｂｅｌの本を読むと人間以外の気持ちで（実際は人が想像する動物や昆虫の気持ちなのですが）感じる事が出来る気がして・・・。実生活の中でも生き物を見る目が変わります。子供の頃にこんな話をたくさん読んでいればなぁって感じる本ばかりです。

こぶた君はどろんこの中にどっぷりつかるのが好きです。でもある日、豚小屋と一緒にピカピカに洗われてしまいます。怒ったこぶた君は家出をし、大好きなsoft mudを探しに行きます。しかし、どれもこれも一長一短。やっと見つけたsoft mudは最初こそよかったのですが、おや？何か様子が変…。

Frog and ToadでおなじみのArnold Lobelの作品です。表紙のこぶた君はブタらしくないけれど、本文の挿絵は悪くありません。英文も中学２年生ならば一人で読めるでしょう。最後の幸せそうなこぶた君の様子を見ていると、こちらまで幸せな気分になります。
