This book tells a story of romance and murder mystery. I would say that this book is worth reading.
For one thing, Nicholas Sparks pretty did well in combining the totally different subjects, romance and murder mystery with using a couple of skillful techniques. One of them is narrating; he put not only the omniscient narrator but also the first-person narrator. The whole story is mainly devoted to a deep love between Miles and Sarah, but you will probably find that you cannot soak yourself into the love. There is always an unknown italicized person, the first-person narrator. Besides that, Sparks put another technique, interspersing. The first-person's narrations are interspersed throughout the book. Therefore, each chapter has the heart-warming love and mystery, but they are not separate topics. Guessing who the first-person narrator is is associated with how strongly Miles and Sarah are bound together.
For another thing, Sparks set a disputable topic in the book - a love for sweetheart, a love for wife, a love for child, a love for family or a vista of the future; what can be your priority? You will think about the topic deeply through this book. In addition, Sparks let you be in the different situations and think about the theme of the book, the murder of Missy from different prospective. You can see the theme from Miles's point of view, Jonah's prospective and the point of a university student, the unknown first-person narrator. That means you can see it from an adult, a child and an immature adult.
Although this book is really great, the end was not as good as I expected. Sparks might have wanted readers to imagine what would happen afterwards, but more could've been told about their relationship. I gave four stars for this reason.

彼の本は、The Wedding, A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, Message in a Bottle と、何だかんだで結構読破してます。
「易しく優しい英語」ですごく読みやすいし、簡単なんだけど綺麗な表現で読んでいてすごくスムーズに進むので好き。「王道」なラブストーリーが多いので、安心して読めて、物語の中に「完全に」浸れるので好きです。
今回も、「サスペンス調の濃いラブ・ストーリー」ってことですが、いや、「サスペンスの部分」ははっきり言って最初からバッチリ答えが見えてます。裏表紙読んだ時点でわかるから。。。
でもそれでもいいのです。彼の本には「女性への優しい視点」が随所にあるから好きなのです。

おとなの恋愛小説だけど、ちょっとイマイチ

２年前のひき逃げで妻を失ったマイルズは、ようやく自分の人生を生きて見ようという気持ちになっていた。ある日小学２年の息子の先生に呼び出されて、息子に補習が必要なことを告げられるとともに、その美しさに惹きつけられ、新たな恋にのめりこむことになる。
探偵小説好きの私にとっては、マイルズの行動は常軌を逸しているし、どんなに恋愛の部分が面白くてもとても満足できるものではありません。安もんのロマンスを読んでいるような感じです。
前半はかなり面白かったのですが、後半から途中までは、我慢して読みました。

愛する妻を失った主人公、マイルズ。妻の死は交通事故だったのか、それとも何者かによって仕組まれた殺人なのか。傷心の日々を送るマイルズだが、魅力的な女性と運命的な出会いをする。お互い愛し合うようになる二人。しかし二人が知ることになる衝撃的な事実とは？ ラストはホロリとしました。英語は易しめでペーパーバック初心者でも大丈夫です。
それでも読んでみる価値があるのでは

マイルズの妻を殺したのは誰なのかという疑問は、単なる謎解きで終わらずマイルズの愛の深さを測る物差しになります。交通事故を起こした人の日記は、その謎解きの興味をつなぎ、私たちに最後までこの本を読ませます。エンディングでのマイルズの解決策は、法に盲目に従うことを良しとせず、知恵のある方法であったと思います。私は最後まで十分に楽しんで読むことができました。
