アニタ・ブレイクの第９作。前６〜８作で＜ヴァンパイア＞のジャン・クロ−ドと＜物憑き＞のリチャードとの３角関係に一応の決着をつけたアニタ。本作では、危険な旧友？のエドワードの依頼で、久々に人間界で起こる大量猟奇事件に駆り出されます。少し書き込みが多くなって話の進みがスローな感はあるものの、凄み（殺しまくり）を増した、アニタ本来の命がけのホラーアクション大作です。ベッドインも一切なく純粋に楽しめる最後？のアニタ作品ですが、相当血みどろなので覚悟して読んでください。
しかし巻末の次巻抜粋予告からもわかるように、本巻を最後に次の第１０巻からはベッドシーンが急増、"Sex and the City"ならぬ"Sex and the Story"状態に突入して下品になっていき、他のレヴューにもあるように、旧来のファンを激怒させています。「肉食人種＆タカ派」の女流作家はコワイ！

Anitaは以前の借りを返すため、Edwardの追っている事件解決に協力することになる。
New Mexicoで待ち受けていたのはEdwardでさえ恐怖を感じる残虐な事件だった。またEdwardの家に滞在することになり、Anitaは彼の私生活を見ることになる。

AnitaはJean-ClaudeとRicherdとの関係に悩み、距離を置くことにしています。また自分がSociopathではないかと悩んでいます。Anitaが二人を避けているためにTriumvirateの力が弱まり、重症を負うことになります。
Edwardと恋愛観などを話し合ったりして、おかしな感じです。主人公が悩んでいるためか、ややテンポが悪い感じがしました。

If you're a fan of fantasy, but find wizards and magic a little too heavy, then you'll enjoy this. You'll encounter vampires, werewolves, and other preternatural creatures but the story takes place in modern time, like now, so it's easier to follow along. Anita Blake is tough, pretty, and a hard core feminist, just all too good to sound true, but the humour that's included in her personality makes it forgivable. This is the ninth book
in this series, so you might want to read several previous books to get a better understanding of the events leading up to this one. It's fun reading, with a little romance mixed with lots of actions.
